Police suspect a man whose body was found Friday morning (Jan. 1) in Algiers had been struck by a vehicle in the French Quarter and dragged four miles across the Crescent City Connection to the West Bank Expressway.

They said they think he was the victim of a hit-and-run wreck near Dumaine and Decatur streets.

#‎NOPD‬ needs your help identifying this vehicle and the driver of this vehicle. Around 3:00 a.m., witnesses saw the vehicle hit an unknown male pedestrian at Dumaine and Decatur Street.

According to witnesses, the vehicle was seen striking the victim then turning onto Madison St. and traveling against traffic to Chartres. The vehicle then turned right on Chartres eastbound from Madison St, then unknown on Chartres.

The initial investigation reveals that the victim may have been dragged by the vehicle from the French Quarter to the Westbank.

  • The vehicle is described as a four-door black sedan with tinted windows.

The NOPD Fatality Unit is in charge of the on-going investigation. Detectives are still interviewing witnesses and searching for more video.
