560052898b50d.imageFairfax County police are investigating a death that occurred in the 3800 block of Havenwood Place in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County on Sept.21.

Police said they responded to the home at around 1:30 a.m. for a report of an assault. Upon their arrival to the home, officers said they discovered a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body. Another resident of the home, an adult male located at the scene, is believed to be responsible for the shooting according to police. The gun believed to be involved was recovered, they said.

Law enforcement officials say the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is continuing. The case appears to be isolated to the residence, and the two men involved were known to each other, they have concluded.

There is no apparent threat to the safety of the public, police said.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

UPDATE: After further investigation following the shooting this morning, detectives arrested Freddy A. Bonilla Rodriguez, 39, of Alexandria. He has been charged with second-degree murder and is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond. The victim has been identified, but is not yet being released pending notifications to the next of kin.
