SPRINGFIELD, Va. (WUSA9) — The man who died in a shooting outside of a Springfield home on Thursday night was 25 years old, say police.

Fairfax County police say they responded for a report of a disturbance in the 8100 block Curving Creek Ct. at 10 p.m. They later found a man with an apparent gunshot wound to his lower extremities outside on the doorstep. The man was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries and died.

The male suspect and weapon believed to be involved in the shooting were located, say police, but they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death. At this time, detectives believe it was an isolated to the residence. They also believe the suspect and victim knew each other.

A man said that he heard someone on the ground yell “someone please help me.” He did not know where it came from but saw a neighbor open the door and look down. According to the man, the neighbor said to the person on the ground, “I shot you because you tried to break into my house.”

Neighbors say that the victim had banged on the door hard and loud — one man said he did it in a “threatening manner” — trying to get into the house.

Police identified the deceased man as 25-year-old Mohammed Moshin Najim.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
